About Us

The Dei Laudes Choir is comprised of singers from Kingsport, TN, Conover, NC, Greensboro, NC, and Chapel Hill, NC. This choir was invited to participate in the American Celebration of Music in Germany in June 2004. Under the direction of R. Benjamin Hutchens, II and Jason L. Gottschalk, the choir gave concerts in the Kaiser Wilhelm Church in Central Berlin, Martin Luther's Church in Wittenburg, Meissen Cathedreal, and the St. Nicholas Church in Prague, Czech Republic. The choir was honored to receive a citation from the city of Prague for their musical contribution to the city. In addition to these concerts, the choir was selected to be the service choir for a choral vespers service at the Berlin Cathedral (where Hutchens and Gottschalk served as service organists) and at the Sunday Gottesdienst (Morning Worship Service) at the Nicoali Church in Leipzig.

On July 3, 2005 the choir was invited to sing in the National Cathedral, Washington DC. In addition to this honor, the choir gave performances in Kingsport, TN and Conover, NC.

In July 2006, the choir was invited to participate in the American Celebration of Music in Italy. The choir acted as the service choir for a Sunday mass at St.Peter's Basilica in Rome and sang in cathedrals throughout northern Italy in Venice, Florence, and Milan. The choir also gave performances in Greensboro, NC and Chapel Hill, NC, and most recently a concert as part of the Fine Arts Series at St.Paul's Lutheran Church in Columbia, SC. Also in 2006 the choir gave performances in Greensboro and Chapel Hill NC and a concert as part of the fine arts series at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Columbia SC. In December of 2007 the choir performed Robert Shaw's The Many Moods of Christmas with orchestra to a standing room only audience in Durham, NC. Most recently, the choir toured southern France and Geneva, Switzerland in June of 2008 and in October 2008 performed a concert at Yadkinville United Methodist Church, Yadkinville, NC.
